The Numerical Simulation of Ship Waves Using Cartesian Grid Methods
نویسنده
چکیده
Two different cartesian-grid methods are used to simulate the flow around the DDG 5415. The first technique uses a “coupled level-set and volume-of-fluid” (CLS) technique to model the free-surface interface. The noflux boundary condition on the hull is imposed using a finite-volume technique. The second technique uses a level-set technique (LS) to model the free-surface interface. A body-force technique is used to impose the hull boundary condition. The predictions of both numerical techniques are compared to whisker-probe measurements of the DDG 5415. The level-set technique is also used to investigate the breakup of a two-dimensional spray sheet.

Advances in Cartesian-grid methods for computational ship hydrodynamics
Recent developments in computational fluid dynamics are enabling accurate simulations of full scale ship hydrodynamic flow. In particular, Cartesian-grid techniques such as volume-of-fluid and immersed boundary methods expedite computational simulations of unsteady breaking wave flows around complicated ship geometries. However, there are still a number of important numerical and modeling issue...

This paper represents a first step towards the development of two-phase CFD methods for small and large scale ship hydrodynamic applications. Two-phase level set approaches are being implemented in CFDShip-Iowa to extend the modeling capabilities of the current version 4 along with complementary experiments for validation. متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Random Irregular Waves for Wave Generation in Laboratory Flumes
Understanding of wave hydrodynamics and its effects are important for engineers and scientists. Important insights may be gained from laboratory studies. Often the waves are simulated in laboratory flumes do not have the full characteristics of real sea waves. It is then necessary to present reliable methods of wave generation in wave flumes. In this paper, the results of numerically simulate...
متن کاملSymmetry without Symmetry: Numerical Simulation of Axisymmetric Systems using Cartesian Grids
We present a new technique for the numerical simulation of axisymmetric systems. This technique avoids the coordinate singularities which often arise when cylindrical or polar-spherical coordinate finite difference grids are used, particularly in simulating tensor partial differential equations like those of 3 + 1 numerical relativity. For a system axisymmetric about the z axis, the basic idea ...
متن کاملTwo Phase Level-Set/Immersed-Boundary Cartesian Grid Method for Ship Hydrodynamics
Recent progress at IIHR on the development of CFDShip-Iowa version 6 is presented. Current focus is on a sharp interface Cartesian grid method for the large-eddy simulation (LES) of turbulent two-phase incompressible flows. In this method, the level set formulation for two-phase incompressible flows is adopted. The density and pressure jump conditions across the interface (the latter due to sur...
